This well-trained, affectionate senior girl found herself at a pound through no fault of her own. Having been with the same owner since she was 6 weeks old, they sadly found themselves homeless so she was surrendered to a shelter in February 2018 until she came to SHARP in December 2018.
She has been a little incontinent since having a nasty UTI left untreated for some time which is now being treated but she is OK left for a few hours at a time. It could also be a touch of spay incontinence which can also be managed. She is a little overweight (32.6kg/72lbs) and is currently on a weight management diet. She’s had blood work/urinalysis done and a thorough checkup from the vet and is clinically healthy otherwise. She has been great for her vet visits and very well behaved whilst being handled.
She’s a great companion, loves to be in the vehicle, likes her walks and is still quite strong on the leash so will need someone strong enough to hold her back whilst meeting other people and dogs she is interested in sniffing and playing with. She hasn’t attempted to get on the furniture and is amazing in crate – just goes in when told. She doesn’t seem to be very vocal and is selective with toys – she doesn’t seem to like the ones that squeak! She loves the tennis ball and can catch really well. She LOVES the tug rope – both to tug and chew on. She is still very playful for her age.
She doesn’t beg for food or fight over it. She listens well and does not charge doors or run away. She’s not overly keen on being brushed but it is possible if done a little at a time.
Lhassa would be a great companion as a single dog in a quieter home or with another quiet/older dog without children to spend her senior years.
Lhassa is up to date on her vaccinations and is microchipped. She will need someone who can commit to maintaining her incontinence medication.
